SERGIO ALVAREZ- ABOUT THE ARTIST
Sergio Alvarez was born in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. After completing studies atMississippi State University, Sergio has called New Orleans home for over 20 years and has lived in United States since 1976. His first solo exhibition was at The Copan Maya Gallery in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, in July of 1991. Sergio’s artistic renaissance began in May of 2011 as a therapeutic outlet.His next exhibitions were at d.o.c.s. Gallery group exhibitions, during the summer2012 and 2013.Sergio’s work impressed audiences as he bloomed with confidence during a group exhibit at TREO’s Gallery in September of 2014. (Windows series)Sergio has participated in many groups exhibits and two Bywater Biennials at The New Orleans Art Center, starting November 2015 and 2016. Ariodante gallery of contemporary arts and crafts, in the fall of 2016, he was offered an exhibit on April 2017. The artist has been a featured artist with Ariodante for four years and has an upcoming show in December 2021.
Sergio's paintings are inside with an outside feel, the light source is blue or white, attempting to give an artificial feel to the way the light hits the objects and distorted shadows to confuse the eye and our logic, what we know. The artist work changes, according to his perception of the political, social and personal environments that affects his emotions and beliefs.Sergio’s present work is a way to express his sadness and fears of the pandemic, and how to deal with it in a more personal and constructive way! Painting nature scenes and the beauty we have around us helps apiece his sadness for the many lives lost, the process of creating occupies his time in ways that brings him pleasure. Continuing to learn and experimenting with techniques and styles, the goal is to one day find what type of painting style and techniques gives him the most rewarding feeling of accomplishment and audience response.
