About My Work by Moira Crone
I am influenced by the German Expressionists’ intense feeling, dark marking, elegant drawing and brilliant color. I have also been inspired by collagist Romare Bearden and by other African American artists' use of sampling, assemblage, and juxtaposition. Inspired by my historic neighborhood in New Orleans, I like my cityscapes to evoke a world within, as well as the world that came before, and the one possible in the future.
In portraying figures in pairs and groups whose relationship can be open to a wide range of evolving interpretations, I am interested in the dance of dominance, of attention, of appeal. Who is focused, and who is vague--- who is crazy and who, at least a little sane.
