J.C. Anderson is a native of New Orleans. He is a Fine Artist/ Graphic Designer. His preferred mediums are acrylic paint, charcoal, graphite and pen & amd ink. He has been drawing and creating art since he was three years old. As a young child, Jerome was given art supplies to keep him busy with activities when class work assignments were completed too early. He had his first art exhibit at 5 years old because of these activities. It was a “One Man Show” due to the volume of work he created. Throughout grade school and college he participated in art programs and exhibits. In his youth, he exhibited at schools with The Children’s Film Festival and at various galleries in the New Orleans French Quarter. He participated in National Conference of Artist
sponsored MLK Day group exhibits at New Orleans African American Museum of Art, Culture and History (NOAAM) and Ashe Cultural Arts Center in New Orleans. He assisted in coordinating and exhibited in a series of Venezuelan Consulate Exhibitions at the World Trade Center and at McKenna Museum of African-American Art. For the “Restore the Oaks” Public Art Project in New Orleans, he created a mural of Jelly Roll Morton &
The Red Hot Peppers on one of the columns under the I-10 N. Claiborne fly-over at Kelerec St.
He studied Fine Arts and Graphic Design at Xavier University of New Orleans and earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree at Southern University of New Orleans (SUNO) with a concentration in Graphic Design. Upon graduating, he received the Award of Excellence from SUNO Art Department. While at SUNO, his graphic design instructor entered a brochure design for an African Art Collection into the American Advertising Awards– ADDY Awards competition. He won, receiving the Addy Awards Certificate of Excellence in the Student Division for SUNO. He has continued to focus on Graphic Design, Fine Arts and Photography for events, art commissions, personal projects and gifts for family and friends. As a native of New Orleans, his subjects have been influenced by local culture and traditions; personal experiences and perceptions of his connection to the people of Africa and the Caribbean.
His most recent exhibits have been through The Arts Hancock County on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. Since 2014 he has been participating in exhibits with prolific Gulf Coast artists: Waveland City Hall Gallery, The Hancock County Courthouse Gallery, Hancock County Chamber of Commerce, Negrottos Gallery in Biloxi, MS.and Bay Artist Co-Op in Bay St. Louis, MS. He participated in the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival Congo Square Marketplace from 2017 through 2019, ‘Outside The Tent’ Jazz Fest Exhibit in 2019 and Ashe Cultural Arts MAAFA Exhibit 2018; with his painting ‘Flowers’ on the MAAFA Visitors Guide cover. Beginning in 2020,The New Orleans Art Center is a welcome introduction to an online gallery exhibition among other great New Orleans artists.
